Pentecost-Today?: The Biblical Basis for Understanding Revival
Published in Hardcover by Banner of Truth (December, 1998)
Authors: Iain H. Murray and Aain H. Murray
Average review score:

Interested in true revival? THEN READ THIS!
Pentecost-Today is a timely, well researched book addressing the topic of Revival. A tenacious commitment to the authority of scripture is evident from the opening pages and historical insights concerning revival abound. Chapters addressing the theology of Charles Finney and Divine sovereignty are wonderful. But the author's treatment of fanaticism and the appendix on regeneration makes this volume a necessary reading resource. With all of the clamor about revival today this book rings loud and clear.Other worthwhile titles by the same author include; Revival & Revivalism and The Invitation System.

Philosophy of Religion: The Big Questions (Philosophy, the Big Questions)
Published in Paperback by Blackwell Publishers (February, 1999)
Authors: Eleonore Stump and Michael J. Murray
Average review score:

Very Broad and Systematic in its Contents
This book is a wonderful reference work/text on the Philosophy of Religion. It is edited by Eleonore Stump and Michael J. Murray. The text is broad in several ways. First, there are works represented from Medieval philosophers to Modern philosophers. Second, the work consists of seven parts, each part dealing with a particular issue, and within each part philosopher's works from many varying centuries are represented. Furthermore, there are articles which have appeared in the recent (last fifty years) philosophy journals. This makes for a very broad area of study. The seven parts include the nature of God, the existence of God, evil, Religious belief and its relation to reason, making sense of religious practices and doctrines, morality, and religious pluralism, gender, and ethnic diversity. Some of the authors works that have been included are Aquinas, Hasker, Rowe, Plantinga, van Inwagen, Hume, Hick, Stump, Al-Ghazali, Swinburne, McCord Adams, Pascal, Draper, Anselm, Kretzmann, Wolterstorff, etc. This is a great modern reference work and I have referred to it many times in my own studies. If you are wanting a great collection of twentieth century philosopher's works then this book is for you since it places an emphasis on such things and yet still includes works from centuries past.

The Philosophy of Time
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (June, 1997)
Authors: Poidevin Le, Murray Macbeath, and Robin Le Poidevin
Average review score:

A fine collection.
This is an excellent collection of readings on the philosophy of time. The contents include twelve essays by twelve different philosophers (including the editors of the volume) -- the very first of which is taken from the famous thirty-third chapter of John McTaggart Ellis McTaggart's _The Nature of Existence_. (Originally entitled "Time," the chapter is here retitled "The Unreality of Time.")

I remarked in my review of that book that McTaggart's argument has been tried and found wanting, but one important partial exception is featured in this volume: D.H. Mellor's piece "The Unreality of Tense." Mellor does not, indeed, accept McTaggart's conclusion that time itself is "unreal," but he does take McTaggart to have provided a successful argument for a "tenseless" theory of time. (Mellor's piece is a revision of chapter 6 of his book _Real Time_ -- the first edition, I presume.)

The other essays range over a wide variety of topics, from David Lewis's "The Paradoxes of Time Travel" to Michael Dummet's "Bringing About The Past," from whether time really "passes" or not and whether the nature of time is a philosophical or an empirical question to whether time has a beginning and whether change is real. I shall not try to comment on them all.

But the selections are excellent and the collection as a whole is very thorough. In short, this a fine set of readings for anyone with time on his hands.

Pipeline Design & Construction: A Practical Approach
Published in Hardcover by Amer Society of Mechanical Engineers (October, 2000)
Authors: Mo Mohitpour, H. Golshan, and A. Murray
Average review score:

Excellent reference and design tool
I purchased this book a couple of months ago thinking of it as an aditional reference book. It contains the practical approach that we use in the day to day construction process for oil and gas pipelines at Boscan Field in Venezuela. It's amazing how the authors reflects sharply and easily every step of the pipeline design and construction. The section dedicated to transient analysis is fully documented with a real word example and the parallel piping is covered within the teory discussed.

Excellent Book.

Teacher union loves this book!
Our local teacher's union gives a copy of this book as a present to each new teacher hired by our district. The book is part of three books given to each new teacher. The other two books are: "Countdown to the First Day of School" and "Bright Ideas: A Pocket Mentor for Beginning Teachers." The books are wonderful for helping new teachers feel confident and pursue their classes with style and zest.

Play With Us (Ladybird Key Words Reading Scheme Book, No 1A)
Published in Hardcover by Ladybird Books (July, 1987)
Authors: W. Murray and Ladybird Books
Average review score:

Teaching our children to read.
Play with us is the first book of a 36 book series that teaches children how to read. The books use the key words reading scheme. Key words make up a large portion of all the words in juvenile reading. These books were successfull when I was in school in the 60's and 70's and now I am using these same books to teach my own children to read. My children have very high reading levels for their age, and I believe it is because of the Ladybird key words reading scheme. Teaching our children to read increases their ability to do well in all other subjects. Why do we keep changing programs that work. Key words is a must for any family with young children learning to read.

The Political Economy of Public Administration : Institutional Choice in the Public Sector
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (October, 1995)
Author: Murray J. Horn
Average review score:

Transaction cost theory and public administration
Transaction cost theory has been applied to public administration since early 1980s. However, most of these researches are not very sucessful, thus making many public administration theorists suspect the promises of using transaction cost theory to public administration. It is at this critical point that Horn prove to us that transaction cost theory is an attractive theory for public administration research. The Horn model is concentrated on the legislature institutional choices. To him, institutional choices of the legislature will be affected by various transaction costs, and the legislature must trade-off among these transaction costs. It is obvious that the Horn model had followed the Williamsonian transaction cost theory rather than North's perspective of transaction cost theory. However, different from other theorists using Williamsonian transaction cost theory to public administration, Horn had not limited himself to the narrowing category of Market and Hierarchy. In sum, this Horn model combined recent work of Williamson (Private and public bureaucracy: perspective of transaction cost theory, 1999)has convinced students like me that transaction cost theory is a productive perspective for public administration research.

Primary Care of the Glaucomas
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill/Appleton & Lange (23 October, 2000)
Authors: Murray Fingeret and Thomas L. Lewis
Average review score:

THE text for Optometrists to understand Glaucoma
This is a great book for optometry students, and optometrists alike! If you've got any questions about the peculiar disease of glaucoma, read this book. Not only does it explain diagnosis of the many forms of the disease, but has an in depth section that explains pharmacological management as well as surgical management. The discussions are fairly up to date, and easy to follow. The text does a good job at integrating as much new information and research as possible. There are some editing errors, but hey we're not all perfect!
